Muslims, Marxists, Strange Bedfellows
The church of Christ is ever under assault. If we believe the Bible on Satan’s efforts, this should not surprise. “Schemes of the devil” (Eph. 6:11) are so clever that we can even expect the unexpected. Have you ever been astonished at the palpable reluctance of the practically Marxist American mainstream media to criticize Islam? No matter the number of times a Muslim with a gun, knife, bomb, or vehicle commits murder and mayhem for Allah, the religion at the heart of the perpetrator is never assailed as the root problem. Why is Christianity criticized and Islam coddled? Likewise, why is it, if a Muslim is elected to Congress, she will inevitably align with the most radical Democrats? How can Marxist ideas and Muslim ideology even stand to be in the same room, much less get along like fast friends?
Think of it. Islam is everything godless America hates. Islam supports execution of adulterers and homosexuals and endorses whippings for premarital sex. But morally challenged Americans want a sexual free-for-all where anything goes. Islam calls for women to be covered. But loose Americans proudly undress and parade their immodesty in public. Islam forbids alcohol. Plenty of Americans would do anything to keep their liquor flowing. Islam opposes pornography. Ethically bankrupt Americans devour it. Islam calls for everyone to submit to Allah. Liberals refuse to bow to any deity who would condemn their behavior. Islam works toward a world ruled by Islam. Cultural leftists decry organized religion and had rather have freedom from religion. Islam holds the Quran as highest law. Many Americans think themselves the highest law. Either side would trample the U.S. Constitution. America’s constitutional republic and an Islamic caliphate are fundamentally, hopelessly incompatible. Yet, America has opened its doors to a stream of countless Muslims and counted it progress.
Disparate as the Left and Islam are, you would think mainstream journalists, celebrities, and Democrat politicians would be standing in line to criticize Islam every chance they got. After all, where could you find two worldviews more at odds? Or, are they? The answer to the peculiar alliance lies in what both have in common. The Left hates the church of Christ. Islam hates the church of Christ. Both hate the Bible and the truth it teaches. By rejecting the gospel, the Left embraces a worldview from the devil (who is the “father of lies,” John 8:44). By rejecting the gospel, Muslims embrace a worldview from the same author. So, though they at first seem inherently different, the worldviews originate at the same source. And the devil knows, whether it helps the Left, or whether it helps Islam, it will challenge the influence of the gospel of Christ. Since preventing men’s salvation seems his chief concern, Satan cares not from which direction the hindrance comes. In the case of Muslims and Marxists, the devil has made them strange bedfellows, indeed.
